International Relations...Misawa Style

Corbin and his All-Star Under 12 Soccer Team had their final game today against a strong team from nearby Momoishi Town. The two teams met on Leftwich Field in the morning hours of July 22nd, and in typical Misawa fashion it was cold and raining. A perfect ending to a crazy soccer season. The kids played harder than ever before, dodging puddles, clumps of mud, each other (unsuccessful at times) and had an absolutely marvelous time. It was a kid's dream come true--GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY IN THE RAIN!!

After our kids won 3-0, all of the kids gathered at midfield, exchanged Gatorades and Aquarius sports drinks and headed over to the pavilion for pizza! The Momoishites enjoyed the pizza, the comaraderie, and the fact that they got to play on grass today. When the got ready to leave, they thanked all of us in English. A very nice touch. They got on their bus and headed back to home with the invitation to come to their field in the fall and give it another go.

Sports. The great international equalizer. Only wish Corbin could be here in the fall to play against them again. He'll be playing against new kids and giving them heck just like he did against the Japanese kids. But we'll never forget playing against all of the great Japanese kids this year. We may even see a couple of them on the Japanese World Cup team in 8 years. Never know.
